Crafting Interculturalidad from Below

In this presentation, I focus on the methodology of Interculturalidad which is drawn from the pedagogical laboratories developed by Armando Loera Varela,[1] and which is based on “crafting theory from below”, enabling teachers to transform education by overcoming social injustices resulting from organizational learning and hegemonic teaching. Addressed is the long-standing deconstruction process stemming from scholars of the Global South (Aman, 2018; Solano-Campos, 2013, Zemblylas, 2003) of moving away from complacent intercultural education to creating critically counter-hegemonic practices (Gorski, 2009).

[1] Armando Loera Varela was a keynote presenter at the IAIE 2021 Conference in Kibbutzim College of Education, Technology and the Arts, Tel Aviv, Israel. As he was unable to attend, my standing in for him was not accepted. Hence, I honor him in this manner since he sadly passed away in February 2022.
